Emmett Scrimshaw

Emmett is an experienced litigator who joined Heath Law in October, 2023. After obtaining his law degree from the University of Victoria in 2011, he moved to Calgary, Alberta, where he handled complex and high-stakes litigation for corporate and individual clients before returning to Vancouver Island.

His litigation practice includes bringing or responding to claims regarding breach of contract, wrongful dismissal, commercial leases, shareholder rights, defamation, estates and professional negligence. Resolving disputes within a wide range of industries and legal areas has provided him with valuable perspective and strategic insights. He is practical and is able to tailor his advice to the unique needs of his clients.

Emmett has successfully represented clients in the Supreme Court and Court of Appeal of British Columbia, all levels of court in Alberta, the Federal Court of Canada, and the Tax Court of Canada. He has assisted clients with leave applications to the Supreme Court of Canada. Outside of the courtroom, Emmett has conducted arbitrations and mediations as well as appeals in the areas of post-secondary education and competitive athletics.

He is a father to two young children and enjoys gardening, record collecting and exploring the Gulf Islands.
